Interesting, especially the used cars, like a '58 Impala convertible for $2395 (even with a six).

South Tryon Street would have been Charlotte NC. The 'Factory Experimental Car' must have been a factory police car - Avanti engine, special police front seat, rollbar, etc. Wow, would love to find that stuck in a garage here in NC. :-)

Silverplate, I sent you a PM thru this forum.

I'll bet its one of those 20 special 1964 Marshals that were made for various police departments who ordered Studebakers in the past.

Bet you are correct. See p.o. below. I did some research on these cars 20+ years ago and have copies of all 20 production orders (Accounting Dept copies) as well as the Engineering Deviation Permit . Would probably be an interesting story re the eventual purchaser of this car and his experience with it! Incidentally of the 20 cars only three were painted the Midnight Black. Others were either white or special colors. The one survivor I know is white.

Thanks for posting that Production Order.

In addition to the former City of Seattle unit that was restored by Jack Merrill, and currently in the Studebaker Museum, the Wisconsin State Patrol car survives as does the ex-State of Kentucky Police car that was once owned by Joe Fay.
