    Steve,
they did not show an engine picture of the car during the filming because the supercharger was in LA being rebuilt. It still sounded great in the feature and is as loud now as it was then.

Hey Greg- As a matter of fact I was wondering if you knew of this car, being in The UK. Well- you answered that question- Period!
And- Oh yes..... I remember your stories of 'Dirtbagging with Diff' printed in the Stude News. How you got some of 'em past dear Joy Godley I'll never know ! .

    Hi Steve,
that is my car. I bought it in 1992 in LA and had it with me in Toronto and sold it to Paul Eccles in Bolton after a very 4 month drunken tour of Europe in the car on my way home to Oz.

I had it books on the ship to come home and Paul paid the cancelation fees and I drove it up to Bolton for him. We have been friends ever since.

Since I courted my now wife Kristine in the car back in Toronto in 1993 we were in discussions with Paul to buy it back for the past few years. So last year we bought it back and it is my wife's car as we had first option.
It is still how it was when it was on Top Gear. They did a good feature on the car because it is a car that really drives well.

Anyway, it's just another thing in my wife's car's history. It is a smiley face car to drive.

If you liked that- then try this one - A couple of our Studebaker Car Club Of Australia members took 3rd place in 2019 Targa Tasmania ( just wish the bumper bars were on it )

Thanks for posting! I have only seen bits of pieces of "old top gear" before Clarkson, Hammond, and May. Their version is, and continues to be, my favorite show even as it's drifted to Amazon and has changed formats again. Entertaining, somewhat informative, and a little ridiculous. It's something the whole family can watch and not have to worry about.

I'm an avowed fan of the "Old Top Gear." Although the content kept me watching the program had none of the flare of the show that it would become. I doubt that I would be disposed to watching many episodes of the pre-2002 feature. Steve, I know that's not why you chose to post, but I just wanted to put in a plug for the later iteration of the program. If there is anyone reading this that somehow missed the series please do yourself a favor and become acquainted with it. Not to be confused with the spin-off non-British versions.

Top Gear sure had a different format in 1997. No crashes or explosions. No fires or smashed caravans. That review of the Avanti is a keeper.

Yes, true, and at least he seemed to appreciate the car and didn't 'can' it

    Avanti on Top Gear 1997

I was doing a search for a particular Youtube Video on the Avanti- but bumped into this one quite by accident. I had not seen this one before so I thought I would post it here just in case anybody else might like to see it. Top Gear 1997.
