Official Cancellation of the 56th International Meet of the Studebaker Drivers Club

Following a Special Meeting today, May 3, by the Board of Directors of the Studebaker Drivers Club, Inc., a unanimous decision was made to CANCEL the 56th International Meet of the club, this year, in Chattanooga, TN, scheduled for August 5-8.

Please refer to the attachment in this post or refer to the meet website www.sdcmeet.com for further details on the cancellation. ALL Vendors and ALL Registrants will receive a full refund. of Registration $$$.

I agree, Chris. The only thing worse I can think of is if we fail to resolve to recover and overcome this setback. Let's do our best to work, hang in, talk up, spirits up, pay our dues, and continue on!

Just want to say a big thank you to all of those that work so hard to make our club such a wonderful experience. I’m sure it was not an easy decision to cancel after so much planning. Hopefully we can get things back on track next year. Good thoughts to all .

I had a feeling this was coming even though it’s not until August. I was going to see Derek jeter introducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in July but that was canceled and pushed back until next year. I figured it was a matter of time for the swap meet to be canceled. As badly as it sucks, we just have to find a way to stay positive and know things will get better and return to normal at some Point

Heart goes out to all those folks putting the meet together - was on the sidelines of the Austin meet in 1998 and I know the massive amount of work that goes into these things. They should get dibs on the next open slot and a big thank you for all they did leading up to this point.

Same here Was working hard to get my 53 ready. Really hate to hear this. I know a lot of plans and work are down the tubes. Sorry for all the ones that have worked on it. Does this mean it will be in same location next year ?

FWIW, my son-in-law is a Nurse Practitioner who works in a hospital helping keep COVID-19 patients alive every day; he is very much on the front line. He's generally a pretty laid-back man whom I like and greatly respect.

He has been preaching for months that this situation is worse than it is generally made out to be. Opinions coming from certain people whom we respect necessarily carry more weight than others, so much as I have hotel reservations to cancel, this is probably the best course of action, given our club's demographic.

I've been on the meet committee for almost 2 years and I feel very badly for Wayne Lee and the rest of the guy's. We knew it would be a long shot but the safety of all involved is the most important point. Lets keep our heads held high and make your plans for next years meet in Indianapolis. They need our support too. Thanks to everyone that was planning to attend, it was going to be a fantastic meet. Bill

Chris, the SDC did not "chicken out". The new requirements from the governing bodies and the threat of the virus were very big factors affecting the decision. It wasn't an easy one to make by the board of directors.

I think this was a very hard decision to make. I agree with it entirely. Given the severity of the situation, any other decision would have been ill advised and reprehensible. I applaud the board of directors for taking this stand for the protection of us all. The decision reaffirms that this club is about people and not the money.............
