Hi Folks,
I just saw Steve's red 53 Commander Starliner convertible on the New York Times Collectible Cars web site and would appreciate hearing more about this car. My very first car a couple of years out of high school was a shiny black 53 Commander Starliner hardtop, and I somewhere still have sketches I made of that car as a convertible; a dream that never saw actual fruition. I drove that car to college and for many years after, but I lost it and a companion parts 53 in a divorce 20 years ago. Although I have a 74 E-type OTS to satisfy my top-down driving lust today, I have often wished I still had both 53 Starliners to do a full restoration and perhaps finally realize that convertible dream of long ago.
If you know Steve, please let him know I would appreciate hearing more about his red beauty and the steps it took to finish it out and make body stiff enough for the convertible configuration, and tell him I voted for his car for collectible car of the year even though it was a Triumph owner who asked me to go to the site and vote for his.
