Neon at Mecum Florida

This morning, at the Mecum Florida auction, prior to the vehicles, they sold other auto related things. They had many double sided neon signs that were listed as "authentic reproduction". A large, horizontal, Studebaker sign sold for $4K. For comparison, a Rambler sign sold for$3K and a Cadillac sign sold for $5K.

Love those "authentic reproductions."
I guess after that fiberglass "39 Studebaker pickup" on the S-10 chassis sold for $85,000 there are few things in life that make much sense anymore.

I wouldn't bet on that.
When I wrote the title, I wanted something besides Mecum auction for future searches. Of course, I thought of the car since I sold MANY of them both new and used. I liked the pictured two door, but the vast majority (at least that I sold) were four doors.

According to their website, it did not sell--high bid was $4000. Out of 18 signs offered, 11 did not sell.

I really like the looks of those early Neons.

There is a guy named Pat down in Columbus In who races one, that color too IIRC. His is hopped up and it is really quick.

There was an SRT-4 version, that was supposed to be quicker than a Corvette of the same vintage.

I dunno bout that...maybe in a drag race. I beat one in my old 84 280e euro at an autocross one day back when the sr4ti was new. I was pleasantly surprised.

I'll take a Subaru WRX STi over an SRT-4.

I would expect to see a first-generation unabused, low-mileage WRX STi to appear at a future Mecum auction before I would an SRT-4, if one hasn't already.

BMW actually congratulated Chrysler engineers on this design. It was quite forward thinking for an econobox; cab forward passenger compartment, wheels pushed outward to the corners, plenty of pep and good fuel economy.
