Thanks, hoping to brace tomorrow. Plan on bracing doorways and add some additional braces side to side.
Today, I removed windshield, dash, wiring harness, gas tank, transmission and driveline.
The wiring is quite a mess. Found a tag where the harness was replaced in the 80s. Its a mix of the original wiring, some vinyl coated with many splices. Submitted a request for quote with Lark Works.

Also found a booklet attached to the dash that explains the clock . Will post pictures tomorrow.

knock on wood, so far no broken bolts!

Good luck on your Speedster. I did mine(7807097) in 91. It was expensive then,I can't imagine it now. And then you could find NOS parts still in boxes. Lenses, door handles signal grills, the fender trim, hood ornaments. I even found a guy,now dead, that was able to disassemble my two rear view mirrors, and restore them to brand new. That was $550.00 then. I had bought the reproduction ones,I hated them the minute I opened the box. Heavy and held on with 2 screws.

Have been able to find several NOS pieces . Not cheap. Found NOS center grille , taillights, backup lights, hood ornament, some stainless as well as NOS front fenders and other sheet metal. Have not checked the spreadsheet lately, but a SWAG is close to $30,000 so far.

To paraphrase an often used quote, "Nothing is more expensive than a cheap Speedster".

I recommend the body off restoration. I did one on a 60 Hawk, and it is the only way to really clean and inspect the entire chassis and body. It sounds to me like you have the skills to get it done. Good Luck.

I also have a Speedster and it is in nearly the same condition as yours, VIN 7170565, body 2145 .I am just starting the process of selling nine of my classics five of which are Studebakers (three Avantis), all nine are licensed and driven. After selling the nine I intend to restart on my Speedster, I hope to find a donor 1955 V8 hardtop parts car.

We have lift off! Only had to drill out one door hinge bolt and one bolt on the striker. All the rest came out with no problems. Frame looks great, body was undercoated - that may be one of the reasons it was solid. I had removed the steering jacket and shaft. However , the steering box hung up on the front, firewall, body mount. Removed the box, put a couple of 2x4s lenghtwise along the body and used the 2 post lift to raise. Pictures to come.

Here are some pictures of the chassis after a quick power wash. Looks pretty good IMHO. Pictures showing how I braced the body. I used threaded rod and used existing mounting point so I did not need to weld or grind welds afterword. If the body structure is not sound, like this is, the bracing may not be adequate. Placed 2x4s under the body and used lift to raise.

It's nice to see progress, and thanks for the update, and photos. It looks like a great car to start with, and it will be awesome when finished.
