also i guess i should ad the reason i was asking is because it has a holley carb on the 6 and i know that it not correct and i can not get it to idle low enough the motor sounds good when it is at about 1500 rpm's but below that it just stalls. i have been through the carb three times just to make sure that all the pasages were clean and they are. but when i adjust the idle screw on the base plate there is no difference. i think it is because it is half blocked by the intake. and i am not sure if this carb is even going to work for this truck so i think i may try and locate a original carb.

        Kevin,

This is usually Frank Drumheller's (studelark) territory. Below is a breakdown:

        E - Truck series produced between the 1955 - 1964 model years
5 - 1/2 ton model with the Champion engine
        7E - 1962 model year
        135298 - Serial number
        112 - The wheelbase (112")

        A 5E7 would be a V-8 truck from 1960 as "7" designated a V-8 1/2 ton truck.

ok that makes more since. my titlt says 60 but it is also an abandoned title but the serial number is correct. i guess i could try to get the dmv to fix it when i get it in my name. but that for sure means it is a 62 model?

7E is a 1962 model. I do not have my books handy and my only OHV 6 is 30 miles from here, but I think a Carter RBS. I think they show up often on e-Bay.

According to the Shop Manual, the original carb on a 7E series with a 170 OHV engine is a Carter AS-3370-S. The RBS is listed as the standard on an 8E truck.

Kevin, I just saw your post. Does this mean you have a Studebaker pickup now?

                              Kevin,
I've got the puller you need and we may have a carb around here also. I'll call you this evening if I don't forget. BTW If you call the house leave a message. We don't usually answer before the machine picks up.
