  • I saw an Avanti II today

As I was riding down the road, I spotted an Avanti II at a Shell station. I pulled in and took a better picture, but I couldn't stop an inquire because I was late for an appointment.

I had never seen this one before.

The license plate was Washington State!

Early, early model, too: still has the chrome windplit on the hood where the big gold-on-black S ought to be.

And just IMHO: Don't think I'll ever much like the nose-up stance or the Roman (numeral) Nose on the II's. Not that I'm not grateful to Leo and Nate, you understand. I'm just sayin'...

Judging by lack of side marker lights...a 66 or 67?
If so, pretty rare early car with good workmanship (perhaps better than Studebaker?) and high Stude content.

I just read that their price for early IIs was something like $7,200.
          Big money then.

Are those the original style wheel covers? They look like 53s to me, but I am not an Avanti expert.
In any case, it is a nice looking car.

You are an Avanti expert for noticing those are not the original Avanti wheelcovers! You're correct that they are the 50s models (I won't say which year since I'm liable to be wrong) the basic design of which was eventually modified to become the well known Avanti covers.

will be doing an early morning run not far from where Leonard saw this car. I may swing by there on my way home to see if it is there.

The car is from Washington and it doesn't have wipers?

Eastern Washington is dry compared to the coast..... As Leonard knows, Rain X works well.
