    E40-4458 is a serial number in the 6E40 lineup

    That bottom row of figures interprets like this

    6E = 1961 truck
    40 = 2ton rating
    155= wheelbase in inches
    5 = 5000 front axle
    G3 = G346 15,000 two-speed rear axle
    M = 6.16 & 8.48 rear axle ratios
    S = Standard duty brakes

    Miscreant Studebaker nut in California's central valley.

    1957 Transtar 1/2ton
    1960 Larkvertible V8
    1958 Provincial wagon
    1953 Commander coupe
    1957 President two door

    No deceptive flags to prove I'm patriotic - no biblical BS to impress - just ME and Studebakers - as it should be.

      16,000 miles...WOW!

      That big mirror on the left side is probably very usable...but it HAS to go! [^]

      Nice truck. I have absolutely no need for it, but I want it. [8D]

            Hey Mark There is a 10% buyers fee on top of that $1900.00 Still very cheap, I put the last bid in on it just to be registered in case I decide last minute to do something I shouldn't.

                I had my finger on the button but did not pull the trigger. I bid $1850.00 on it but got outbid, and didn't go any higher. What a good deal. I talked to the guy from KS wildlife & parks, and he said It had to be out of there in 2 weeks. If he would have given me more time, I would have bid higher.

                  Toto, if this thing wasn't in Kansas anymore (say like California or Oregon) I'd be bidding. But even if it did drive, with those gears at the rear..... It would cost as much to drive it here as it would to win it![}]

                    Unless "someone" had the foresight when placing the factory order, to request the vehicle be built with the 5 spd. O/D transmission installed!

                      Nice try, Johnny B. I'm glad I don't have a hauler like you do... with all the big trucks currently on eBay going cheap, I'd constantly be in trouble[]

                        Mark, since I don't see the little 5-spd shift pattern tag on the dash, I'd bed it's got a 4-spd. Besides, with only a 15% advantage to the New Process O/D trannys, you wouldn't save much against even the lowest ratio of that rear! 15% off of 6.16 drops it to a (OH YEAH!) thrifty 5.20!!! That V8 would be really turnin' at 55MPH.[}]

                          Not to quibble Bob (he said knowing he was going to quibble anyway[}]), but I thought those NP 5 O/D transmissions gave a 21% advantage (OD = .79)?

                          Although, with that rear axle ratio, that still only gets you to a 4.89 or so. [B)] No highway cruiser, for sure!! [:0][}]

                            I talked to the guy that used, to use it for the KS wildlife & parks, and he said it was a 4spd. I thought maybe because of the cigar lighter, that maybe the 5spd Od tag would have been deleted. That was not the case though. If it would have been a 5 over I would have continued bidding.

                            may have been a blessing in disguise though, my Dodge Cummins needed inspected, just got the bill an hour after that auction closed, $1500.00. [:0]

                                Yeh that truck doesn't move very often, it mostly sits in the drive until I need it. Well I need it this weekend, and didn't realize the inspection was up. Otherwise I'd do most of the work myself.
