That picture (in the eBay listing) brings back memories. In the early 1970s, I bought an original owner, dark brown (obviously a color change) 1963 Avanti from Art Rust Jr. (TV sportscaster). I don't believe that I have ever seen another dark brown 1963 Avanti.

On the insurance, most shippers carry a lot of liability insurance, like a million dollars, but when it comes down to loss or damage on individual cars, the fine print brings the limit per vehicle (they usually quote insurance figures for an entire load) down to $10K. I have heard of too many people that have had trouble trying to collect on shipper's insurance. At least up to now, I have always had my own insurance on a vehicle before it is ever loaded by a shipper. You have shipped more Studebakers than I have, but I have probably been involved in shipping more vehicles.

Funny you should mention 10K, that's exactly the size of the bond DASH
has for damage. How they can ship cars worth five times that is a mystery.

Please don't hound DASH, it's up to the owner of the Avanti to work with them, we don't need to jump in unless they ask for help. Right now, they are giving DASH a few more days to find the car.

Streaking Studebakers, Batman! Sorry, I just couldn't help it. I really loved that program...

About the Avanti, maybe their insurance will only pay 10k. A lawsuit would pay considerably more. The couple who's car has been lost have a case if DASH doesn't come up with the car soon. I believe the operative term here is 'Gross Negligence.'

Hopefully the car is sitting in a warehouse or garage somewhere with somebody scratching their head wondering what it is, and where it came from.

I used to buy FL vehicles to sell on my lots here in NY. A few years back I was having good luck doing this so I decided to get into it a little more. So I connected with a trucking company that was recommended to me to truck them up here. I would go down and attend 4 auctions in 3 days and fill an 8-car transport...

Well, the first truckload was 5 days late, and one truck had front damage done by their driver (which they paid for)... the broker talked me into giving them another chance, so I repeated the process...

This time, when the truck was 2 days late, I called the broker... said he'd look into it and called me back... after dodging my calls for 3 more days, finally called to tell me he couldn't find the driver or my $60K worth of vehicles! Turns out the driver was a woman fresh out of driving school who got the vehicles loaded and drove north, but was so "stressed and exhausted" she drove the rig to her home and just parked it to "rest up for a couple days"... which turned out to be 4... When she finally did show with the vehicles, she parked on a sideways incline and the first vehicle off (Dodge Conversion van) slid sideways within inches of tumbling off the top of the trailer [B)] When I got there, she was sitting on the ground by the cab sobbing; and it was up to me to get the things unloaded...

All told, it was over 2 weeks to get the vehicles here; about a week of which that no one could find my vehicles....

Point of all this is- chances are good that the car will eventually turn up... and you can see why I don't agree that it's a piece of cake to just grab a West Coast car and have it shipped 3000 miles; my experience tells me otherwise... so I try to buy within my own driving/towing distance, even if it needs a little rust repair (luckily my 2 locally-found current projects don't have rust issues)!
