  • Double digits in Studes at M'view (pix)

    Hi all--

Sorry these are late...but both the computer and my Lark have been behaving strangely this week. This past Wednesday evening the Burlington Central Lions cruise at Mapleview Mall attracted some 350 cars, among them ten Studebakers. Here are a few pix...

56 Sky Hawk, 60 Champ, 62 Lark VI 2dr (the latter being mine)

    Beautiful 64 Avanti R2

Two very sharp rods...62 Lark Daytona HT and 40 Champion coupe

Pretty 64 Daytona droptop shows off its R1 engine

    8000-original-miles 62 Lark VIII 4dr

64 Daytona HT with R1 power

    Sharp 63 GT Hawk

...None of 'em got away from my camera this time! Sadly, by the next day my Lark was back in the shop...experiencing electrical gremlins again (sounds like a similar problem to what Barry recently encountered with his 64 Hawk; I thought Betty's electrical glitches were licked, but evidently not...)

    Hope y'all enjoy the pix.

    Cheers

"Pink"? You mean "coral", surely? Here's another shot of the 56 Sky Hawk...I've only seen this car a couple times and as far as I can recall this is the first time I've managed to get photos of it. The colour scheme is, indeed, quintessentially Fifties...

Nice pics, Steve, and an unusually good variety and showing of Studebakers.

Question: In a show like that, how many of the Studebakers would likely be Hamilton vs. South Bend production? In other words, how many Studes may have migrated north and now be owned and registered in Canada? The '64 Daytona convertible, for example, looks like it has a South-Bend-style Body ID tag on the cowl, so it would be a "migratory" car if that was indeed true.

                      Just curious. Thanx. BP

Bob ... I do know that the '64 convert, the '40 sedan and the Champ truck are SB vehicles . Being a Hamilton area person I'd say that about 75 % of our members cars are US cars. Myself out of my 3 , 1 is a South Bend vehicle and the other 2 are Hamilton ones.

Wow! 75% from South Bend...in Hamilton! That's quite a surprise; I wouldn't have expected nearly that high a percentage anywhere in Canada, especially in Hamilton.[:0] [8D]BP

I think its that way because most of the Hamilton cars got drove into the ground and of coarse our lovely road salt hurried that up some
Also I can remember when alot of the club members had older Studebakers and they had late model ones for daily drivers . There was a time here when you could find a late model Studebaker on used car lots very cheap and guys picked them up for daily drivers and they sure didn't last long in the winter salt . Not many Hamilton Studebakers in the 60's around here left because of this .
My Champ was brought up from California back in the '90's . That '64 ragtop was brought up to York by Chuck Nagel , my '64 HT is a Hamilton car but it spent its life in BC until I brought it here.

                              Bobs--

That makes sense about the local survival rate of the later Hamilton Studes. Never thought about that. My 62 Lark VI is a Hamilton car, that being one of several reasons I picked this particular one, but she wasn't a local car...spent her first 44 years in smalltown eastern Ontario. Would've seen a lot less road salt...and a lot less overall use too, apparently. Plus she got restored half-decently along the way.

The 56 Sky Hawk is going on the market?? Nooo...must...not...inquire...one...Stude...is...enough...right?[]
