My dream road trip!

For as long as I can remember I've dreamed about buying a classic car in CA and driving it home to NY, with nothing but some supplies and tools and my own ingenuity.

Well Bob, if this comes to pass, some friends and myself are going to do Route 66 from Chicago to Santa Monica the week before the Phoenix National Meet in 2010. Get that '62 finished and join us. Leaving the Detroit area for Chicago on May 22, 2010.

Now, unless you want to take the southern route (I-10) towards the east after the meet, you'll have to either drive back alone or find another caravan (I'm sure there'll be at least one). The guys I'm driving '66' with are heading back while we'd be enjoying Phoenix.

I'm with you Bob. [^] Probably won't happen until I retire. Best I've done is when I bought a '60 Champ from a fellow in Pueblo, CO in the late '70's and drove it home to outside Vancouver, BC about 1850 miles. [8D]

Would love to take the Transtar on a road trip.

That'd be great, Tom, but I'd have to see what's happening in business and work when it gets within a few months... I figured more likely when I retire from the P.O. (9 more years) but you never know[8D]

Hey Bob I also want to do that trip, I'm hoping to get that same 57 ready to go on that trip once again. I want to have my 53 2R-R1 ready for Omaha, Then maybe take the both of them, with the 57 trailering the 4X4 down RT 66 to Pheonix in 2010 .

I can't wait to get it home, I'm very curious to see if that was the original color. My TW shows it was a factory color scheme for 57' but don't know if it was born that way. I really like that combo. I see in your photo what appears to be Gus, is that what color he was or is?

Coast to Coast Cruises can be fun~ for sure. I did it four times in the span of about three years- with two different cars!!! It's even more fun 'solo' and towing a U-Haul trailer with the Stude!!! Now, not to take away from the initial post of the Potomac Chapter SDC's trip or anything, but imagine being one of the folks on this trip:
