Yeah, out of the way, or out in the sticks would describe Lone Rock. I hope Arletta is able to get a good price for her car. At least it's drivable. She's of the opinion that I could drive it home to California... or anywhere else for that matter.

As it's a '65 I suppose it must be a 194 six... I had a 230 six in a '62 Lark once and I recall it was quite peppy (and fairly economical as it was a O/D as well).

I wonder...as gas approaches $10/gallon (or higher) will we be singing a different tune about these "lesser" Studebakers? A 6 (especially OD) might be worth more than a V8 then [?] [:0]

Dick, I have to reluctantly agree with Dave and Mark. The only way that a six is worth the trouble is if it's a manual-OD. Then the smaller engine shines. Otherwise, it's just an old ladies drag as the auto tranny dogs the thing. Even pundits of Studebaker admitted that the milage of an auto six wasn't appreciably better than an auto eight. Yes, the six got slightly better milage, but only slightly.

Sadly, Arletta has a really nice car that has little demand.

I wonder how complicated it would be to re-configure this car to a manual-OD? As far as I know, the pedals would have to be changed, a clutch arrangement added and the tranny changed. As I recall, the transmissions are nearly the same length, so the drive shaft just might be able to be retained. Other than that, how complicated could it be (LOL)?[}]
