  • SDC Member Involved in Fatal Crash

Never being one happy to be the bearer of bad news, attached is a link to the Colorado Highway Patrol report of an accident which occurred yesterday here in Colorado involving Studebaker Drivers Club member Jim Calhoun of Kansas. For those of you who may know him, or even if you do not, please keep him in your thoughts and prayers in hopes he is able to make a complete & speedy recovery.
Let us also always be vigilant of inattentive drivers such as the one who caused this unnecessary and tragic accident.

Jim & his wife Chris perform as "The Calhouns" and have entertained at many SDC functions throughout the U.S. They were a fantastic part of our 2004 North Central Zone Meet here in Golden, Colorado. You can also visit their band's website at: www.broadwaymusicco.com/calhouns.htm . You'll notice the Studebaker Trucks sign on their website. Great folks!

Why the hell don't people wear seatbelts? The two that did were treated and released.

Perhaps we should talk about seatbelts on another thread. IMHO

The International which caused the accident rolled on it's side and stopped. The Studebaker rolled several times. Even if the Calhouns had been wearing belts, the injuries would have been serious to fatal.

The Studebaker rolled 1.5 times which means it rolled once and landed on it's roof. The truck rolled .75 times which means it rolled over and landed on it's side. The point is, the people wearing seat belts walked away, the two that didn't were ejected.

Guys, this really isn't the time or the place. Please show a little class.

I disagree, this is exactly the time and place to remind people to wear their seatbelts. If it's mentioned out of the blue, people are like "whatever" and go on doing what they've always done. Sometimes it takes a tragedy to wake people up.

Hope he recovers completely and am saddened by the ladies death. If you want to discuss Studebaker safety, I started a thread so named.

Great folks. They were kind enough to travel a long way and perform at our Ohio Region August meet at Winks last August when asked by our president Don Morgan. Thoughts and prayers from all of us here.
