  • possible new tire for Larks??

I also found this, which leads me to believe this is a good substitute:

    Stock Tire - 185/80R15
    Search Tires Tire 1 - 195/75R15

Section Width: 7.28 in 185 mm

Sidewall Height: 5.82 in 147.82 mm
Sidewall Height: 5.75 in 146.05 mm

    Radius: 13.32 in 338.32 mm
    Radius: 13.25 in 336.55 mm

    Circumference: 83.72 in 2126.4 mm
    Circumference: 83.28 in 2115.3 mm

    Revs per Mile: 780.4
    Revs per Mile: 784.6

    Actual Speed: 60 mph 100 km/h
    Speedometer1: 60.3 mph 100. km/h

and the T speed rating is for 118mph (past my Lark VI capabilities)
the 91 load rating is for about 1400lbs per tire at max inflation

These are Federal tires, at a good price. Would they substitute for 195/75/15??

I checked that website and a 185/80R15 T tire is a "temporary spare" - one of those goofy tires that come in new vehicles instead of having a regular sized 5th tire and wheel in your trunk. So that particular tire won't cut it.

Also...IMHO...a 195 70 15 would look goofy on a Lark...the sidewall is too short. A 195 75 would be fine, but I believe they are NLA.

I'm pretty sure T is the speed rating, not temporary. Here's what the site said about this tire:

          Details For SS-657
          - Pattern specifically designed for low noise levels providing for a comfortable ride - Large grooves for improved water evacuation capabilities and prevents hydroplaning, highly efficient water dispersion - Comfortable, confident driving for highway and everyday use - All season use

And I made a mistake in my first post. I meant 195/75/15 (the NLA ones). I think the 185/80/15 would have a sidewall even taller, which might make it look more like the original bias ply. I think the OD's would be darn close.

Dick, I think I have extra goofy on mine.

Allstateguy, are these proper white wall sizes?

I am going to say these are blackwall. Not good for show, but maybe for a driver. Might have to dig out my PortaWalls.[:0]

I buy my cheap tires at Pep Boys, cheap 205x75x15 white walls.
