I was outdone by a guy on the news group that was replacing a cracked hesd on his V8 with a junk yard part and put the cracked one back on.

In the early '80's I bought a F**d F-150 4x4 truck where the engine was in pieces. It seems the PO had sucked water down the carb. Now I don't mind putting together an engine I tore down, but it is a bit tougher when someone else did it and you don't know the sequence of parts. All the valve seals were as hard as rocks, I ended up rebuilding the heads and when I went to put one back on the motor realized all the new valve seals were still in the bed of the truck. I also reversed one or two of the rods, it bound up so tight with the heads and pan off it would barely turn over with the battery. Puts the heads back on and had one gasket backwards and oil running out of the back of the engine. Had to put the alternator on 3 times to get the brackets and spacers right. Ran pretty good for a 360 once all the work was done (and redone).
