  • Which is better, pix or links

I know some of the guys and gals on here cannot get broadband and have to suffer through with dial up.
What I want to know is............. what do most people prefer, a picture or a link to a picture?

Jerry, I think it depends on the number of pixels or size more than anything else.

I like the correctly sized Pics, but I have cable internet. I would think most dial-up members could also load limited size pics.

I also like pictures but I also have cable. I try to post my pictures at a low resolution so they will come up quicker.

This was discussed on this thread:

I prefer pics, rather than clicking to see them somewhere else.

Of course, high speed has spoiled me.

Jerry, I'm on dial up and also like pix if not to large.

Pix. Definitely. I get so tired of waiting for a window to open, look, then scroll over there and close the window. I'm lazy. And I have dsl.

Jerry, I think even those with dial up would prefer pictures if they are correctly sized. I have Microsoft Office and it includes a picture program that allows me to resize pictures. I try to use this if I have to control picture size. I know Photobucket will usually adjust picture size to manageable size without having to resize them on your own.

And to answer your question, I like pictures . I have Broadband.

Seems everyone prefers the pictures instead of the links IF they are correctly sized.
Is 640 X 480 an acceptable size for everyone?
It tics me off when someone posts a pic that is so wide that one has to scroll across to see it all. Or posts two or more pix side by side and causes the same thing. It screws up the entire thread and makes all the replies too wide to read without scrolling across. It's not that I am too lazy to scroll across, I'm just too stoopid to remember what I was reading when I finally get back to the start of the next line.

I'm on dial-up and like to see pictures that fit my screen and don't take long to load; usually not a problem. If there are a multitude of pictures, a couple of prime samples can be posted, with a link to the remainder.

As has been noted here often, quoting someone else's post and including the photos they've already posted seems a great waste of time and web space and tests my patience.

                        Keep quotes pertinent and succinct.

A few months back I asked if people would post links instead of pictures, but have since changed my mind. I just have to wait for the pictures to load.

My dial-up connection is VERY slow. I've gotten used to opening a thread and doing something else during the minute to minute and a half per image it takes to load.

One thing that is SUPER-annoying and unnecessary is people who quote a post and REPEAT THE PICTURE! NO reason for that, and easy to clip from a quote[}]

Another funny thing: It amazes me how many people assume someone stays on dial-up because they're cheap or poor! How anyone could be unable to think that maybe someone just doesn't have it available? Just not bothering to think, I guess...

I pay for dial-up at my new house where there's no cable available, plus satellite TV; plus cable with hi-speed internet at my weekend home in Oswego; plus internet service on my iPhone. Most of the time, when someone posts album links or videos, I have to try to remember it till the weekend when I can see it. Same when I want to upload picture to the 'net.

As you can tell, it's a source of frustration for me. Hopefully in the next few months the technology will advance to my place...Happy Day!![8D]

I know what you mean Bams. It's not always about the money. I have a TV antenna on top of my house and up until last week only recieved Atlanta channels (about 10). Every year for the last five years I called the local cable company only to be told, every time, I'm 10 feet to far from the street. The M-I-L is moving into the in-law suite and is home all day by herself. She needs more entertainment than the 10 channels from Atlanta can supply. I broke down last week and got Direct TV. Just as I suspected, 500 channels and there's still nothing worth watching. I tried watching 'Pinks' but it reminds me too much of wrestling (seems to be scripted).
