What effect on performance would a change of ratio from 3:54 to 3:31 have on a 259 cid automatic in my '55 President 4dr?

A little slower off the line, and better gas mileage.....Better mileage, too, if you can stay out of the secondaries.

    I'm considering installing a 3.07 in mine, but it's got a 289.

According to Studebaker's own chart here:

      http://tinyurl.com/65oafk

You will get .7 (7 tenths) of a mile per gallon better at 60 MPH.

You will accelerate slower, but have less noise.
