12 step program needed

I delivered a Stude I sold to California this week. Also visited my son and his family and some friends. I just couldn't come back empty. Loaded this '60 Wagon to bring home. V8, stick OD, TT. Tiny bit of rust in the driver's floor. A good rear bumper, tail light, hub caps, door handle, etc. came with it. I'm a sick man [xx(]. Does anybody have a good cure for "the disease" [?]





BTW, I left the San Francisco area about noon yesterday. Stopped in Chico to see my Dad and my sister. Left Chico about 4 PM. Drove straight through to Bellingham . Arrived at 6 AM this morning. 1,000+ miles. I'm WAY too old to be doing that [|)].

Hmmm, my brother always said AA's 12 step program consisted of drinking two six packs. Using that logic, you may have to go scouring the country for a few more cars. If you bent the rules far enouigh, maybe two six cylinder cars would suffice.

Here's the cure I use; works great for me!

If you talk to a practicing alcoholic about quitting, they'll have amazingly convincing arguments as to why they don't have a problem- so: Anytime I spend money (or time) on a Studebaker, I use the old alcoholic's technique: In my case, all I have to do is put the cost in terms of what I spent on oval-track racing; example:

Bought my 60 Lark for less than the cost of 1 nights' set of racing tires

Bought my Provincial for about one third the cost of a bare race car chassis

Total cost to finish the Lark will be about one-third the cost of my last racing engine

I could buy that 63 r2 4dr on eBay last week for a little less than one race-ready car comparable to my last two []

I was racing for several years before I met my lovely better half; she went through that hard-nosed life for years- worrying, fretting over injuries, biting her tongue watching me fight off injuries (including 3 concussions) by working all night with the crew putting the car back together for next week- including taking vac. time from work, on and on... all of which gives her great perspective... so she never has a problem whenever another Stude follows me home! (NO, you can't have her!!)

So you see, I don't need a 12-step program; I've got it all figured out.....

All you have to do is find your own justification terms- maybe you could say, if it wasn't for the Studes I'd just be sittin' in a bar/casino/etc... and carting around and fixing them is good exercise... and you meet some great enablers here................[8D]

My version is "Well I could take up helicopter flying again".
My wife doesn't like me flying because: (1) the cost and
(2)she's sure I'll kill myself flying.

After that I can bring home anything as long as I pay for it.


And I've said this before here but here's a great line:
I asked an old guy why he spent his free time changing the plugs in a friends T-6 Texan (a WWII trainer)...and he replied
"Well, it beats sitting in titty bars."

We all have friends who enjoy other hobbies and thats well and good.I like to cheerfully explain my Stude addiction to non car folk in simple terms.Golf,fishing,rock climbing,hunting et al would cost me money...especially when friends regale me with tales of trips out of state while Studes can at least help pay for my excursions if not add to the family coffer.Granted we all enjoy the old car hobby differently as in my case where I never attend a car show unless I am selling parts.If I just break even I've met people and the expenses are covered.Hunting down leads and the odd wild goose chase are theraputic.This weekend I am off to chase down a Hawk and Scotsman purported to be settling into the earth just 80 miles away.Should be enough sniggly bits left to cover the time and gas so why not look? There may very well be other goodies stashed away.
