1954 Studebaker Pickup

I am new to the forum and hoping someone can help me. I bought a 1954 Studebaker truck from my grandfather before he passed away. I took it to a mechanic to get it into running condition, and he has had it for the last 15 months. All was well until he got to the electrical system. He had the generator rebuilt and found the voltage regulator was bad. He has been looking for 6 weeks for a 12V reverse polarity voltage regulator and has not come up with one yet. I am hoping someone out there can give me a place where I can find this part so that I can finally get my truck back!

I'm sorry we did not give you the answer you wanted last time, but the regulators are not hard to find. Just go the the vendor list and make a call or two, they are not rare. BTW 15 months to get it running is silly, maybe a few hours, tops a weekend.

Please be aware that your '54 truck would have left the factory with a positive ground 6 volt system. Studebaker did not change over to 12 volt systems until 1956. You may want to make sure it is still not 6 volts before investing in parts.

Thanks for your responses. My grandfather did a lot of things on his own, so not sure he converted it correctly to a 12V system. It definitely had a 12V battery in it when I got if from him. Should probably take it to an electrical specialist to ensure it was done correctly.
