  • Curious fender ornaments.

I was casually looking on e-bay at studebaker related stuff, and I stumbled upon this neglected 63 lark. Nothing spectacular, but what caught my eye was the ornaments on the fenders above the headlights. I have never seen anything like these before on a Lark (or any other Studebaker for that matter) Just out of curiosity, are they a factory placement? Or are they some aftermarket dress up addition?

He (or someone) has placed a 63/63 Lark Hood Ornament on top of each fender. From factory it would have been in the centre of the hood and the fender tops clean.

I've never seen them on a Studebaker, in any catalog or brochure and never at a swap meet. Of course, what I don't know about Studebakers would fill the Encyclopedia.

I think that I am inclined to believe you after a further look, however, I doubt that is is from a 63, as the one on mine looks nothing like that. I think that is what threw me off.

Although I can't say for sure, I'm thinking "Thunderbird" when I see the design in the center of that "fender ornament". Definitely not a '62/'63 Lark hood ornament, nor any other Lark hood ornament I've ever seen before.

Sorry! You're correct, I just looked at the small picture and it looked kinda' like a '63 hood ornament, so I figured that's what a previous owner had done. Once I "blew up" the picture I can see my error! [:I]
