  • R2 Lark/Hawk Values

Seems the values are still holding strong, my condition 3 63 GT beat out my show car Goldie's 30K record by $100. The other R2 Hawk with rust issues, blown engine and missing parts went for over 10K, and my old 63 R2 Lark is already over 20K with 12 hours to go.
I was going to try to buy the other R2 since I had a engine, but 10K for a rusty body with the right numbers was just a bit much.

Honestly, I thought the 63 Hawk at 10k appeared to be a good value. It looked like a genuine honest car. The rust issues appeared minor. It was the wrong color but so was the 30k car.

I figured it out this way.

        1OK for the car
        $500 to Md
5K to rebuild the engine, blower, carb and replace all the missing bits.(water manifold, blower mount, carb, air cleaner, air horn and the rest)
1K for exhaust system, all new weatherstripping
6K ? body work and paint.
1K for some chrome, new emblems
        1K for brake system rebuild
        1K suspension, steering and tires.

That's pushing 26K without any surprises and with a lot of labor. Not a car I could make any money on. My bet is I'd end up 30K in when all was said and done. Tying up that kind of money for a few months with a small profit potential just did not add up for me. For someone that could not afford the 20-40K up front, perhaps a perfect car.
