I'm curious what petition I'd be expected to sign. I have two later model Avanti's (74 - 83) insured for an agreed upon value and liability at $500,000 to fit them under my umbrella policy for $435/yr for both. My Ram Pickup and Judy's Corolla total almost $2000/yr for the same liability. While I know most of us drive our "classic" cars far less than the daily driver's the classics can do the same amount of damage to people and property as my daily drivers and probably more due to poorer safety designs.. My classic carrier, Condon and Skelly are exposed to the same issues as my daily car insurance for 1/4 the cost to me.

How could a few thousand folks (SDC) carry the liability limits the large underwriters can? If you mean looking into writing a group policy with a large underwriter, then that might be an idea but we're still small potatoes. If the SDC name were in any way associated with those policies, I drop my membership in a heartbeat as I wouldn't want to be associated with the financial exposure and liability that might arise from such a membership.

I have my '57 Clipper & '48 Starlight Coupe in Arizona insured with Hagerty. Last year my local Arizona agent has now signed up to sell Hagerty, so I decided to put them to the test. They called Hagerty on my 2008 SRT8 Magnum and in no uncertain words, asked my agent if this was the same guy who had already tried (and was denied) for insurance from Canada. As there were only 239 built, they don't want anything to do with it citing it is impossible to replace. I don't get it but they obviously do.

I thought that they, like others, only insured antique cars (over 25 years old), not an 11 year old used car (I know it is a special model). With that said, their answer makes no sense since they will insure a Packard Hawk that there were only about twice as many made and that was a half a Century prior. They are only liable for replacement value, not physical replacement.
