  • '51 Commander bumper guard options - What would you do?

My Land Cruiser had the "towel rack" overriders added sometime in the distant past. I've already decided which of the 3 looks best on this car to me, but was curious as to what others may think.

    Which would you go with?

On that Car, the vertical Guards only, look appropriate.

Maybe it is because ALL I have ever seen were that way, except the very few overdone Bullet Noses, with the Overriders.

Yup, just the vertical bumper guards.

My father's 1952 Dodge had a grille guard. It came in handy when an oil-delivery truck backed into the car (the truck was stopped across a sidewalk, and the driver was trying to let pedestrians go by). The truck driver looked in his mirrors before backing, but only saw the car behind me. (I was blowing the horn.) There was no damage at all to the car, although the horrified look on the truck driver's face showed that he expected something far worse.

Either one of the last two pictures , I’ve never liked those bulky looking grill guards on any Studebakers.

            I'd go with a 500 Caddy engine, 700R4 tranny and a 9" rear end.
Oh, about the bumper guards, Leave them off, it'll go faster and get better fuel mileage.

I've always thought all that extra stuff steals from the great looks of the bullet nose models. When I repaint my '50, I'm going to leave off the vertical guards.

I agree...it's kinda like taking a beautiful bikini model and dressing her in "Granny Panties."

I like the center picture style in your choice post (#1) and also post 7.

If it was mine it wouldn't have a front bumper at all...

I like number 2, with smaller guards I always thought I wanted a 50 with the accessory guards but changed my mind over time

To me, it looks better with the two factory bumper guards. Keep the towel racks because when you sell it to me I want them. My neighbor's car, which was identical to this one, had the towel rack bars. I want it to look exactly like his.
