I'm positive it has been done and there was a photo at one time on this forum. As I recall it was unfinished in grey primer, but that was a few years back. Looked okay to me. Cheers, junior

I would love to see something like that just to see what it looked like. It seems like putting that low sleek front end on a boxy Champ pickup (or a '50-'60 Lark) just wouldn't match up very well. I would love to be wrong, but only seeing something would prove things one way or another.

Exactly my thoughts about it. I hope someone has a picture to post, even if it has to be done in Photoshop.

I think a 1958 sedan front would look more appropriate with the boxy wide bed.

I would prefer a 1956 or 1957 sedan front clip to a 1958. Nothing will help that box mismatch other than narrowing the box.

                That is pretty much it!

                Thanks!

                I'd drive one of those.

Wonder how it would look with a hawk front and narrow the box or swap for a fender side ranger?

The '55 sheet metal is intriguing! I'm visualizing it, with fresh chrome and paint, preferably two tone in either Corral and Pimlico, or the lemon lime? Could a '55 dash from an Ultra Vista model be installed? If you could find a way to adapt the butter knife side trim to it, and top it off with a set of fog lights! I think it would look awesome! I think, something similarly awsome could be done with the '53 - '54 sheet metal, if not for the difficulty with the wrap around windshield? Although it would eliminate the side trim hassle! I'd still want it two toned but, with the appropriate paint line and colors, to maximize its deceptivenes, for whatever year was chosen?

The '55 front sheet metal works, because it was taken from a late '55 Ultra Vista, with the wrap around windshield. Early '55 and '53 - '54 sheet metal wouldn't fit readily because of the change in cowl design. I agree with Gary, the '56 - '58 front clip would be the most pleasing way to do this on a Champ.

No, the ‘53 - ‘54 Sedan sheet metal would not work as well. The difference being the shape of the back of the hood. The ‘53 to early ‘55 windshields vs. the late ‘55 and later wrap around windshield had very different Cowl contours and thus different hood shapes to fit the Cowl. That is why the Champ pictured has a late ‘55 front end.
On a side note, I wish people would quit obsessing about the late Champ wide box. It’s a pickup truck, designed and marketed to haul things!

I agree that the 1956-57 front clips look more attractive, but the 1958s quad headlamps protruding out the sides would look more appropriate with the bed that also protrudes out the sides.

While we are making suggestions, may as well put a 1958 Packard sedan front clip into the mix!

Thanks, for reminding me, Gord. I was aware of it, and even noticed the wrap around windshield, I don't know why it didn't click? Maybe I was just too enamered by that '55 chrome.
