  • Speedster Registry

Until about 9 months ago there was a post about another car being added to the "Speedster Registry" every week. There has been nothing at all recently. Does anyone know what happened and I guess more importantly has anyone actually seen the data page. As I remember one post said that they had Speedsters registerd in the hundreds. It would be a shame if all this data is lost IMO.

Thats great history Craig but it isn't at all on point about where the registry is now. I assume that there was one person who held all the data and that person is no longer active, very sad. there was a lot of effort put into obtaining the info and its now lost.

How foolish we were to not put this registry and all others into a "sticky" where all could use it as reference. We have greatly diminished the ongoing usefulness of our forum IMHO.

The person with this Roster here is no longer on this SDC Forum. He asked me to post a Speedster in March (IIRC, check Craig's reference). I posted it and told him that he should get someone that currently owns a Speedster to keep the Roster up and make posts to it.

Thanks Gary, I own a Speedster and would be happy to take over the registry update and preservation task. How can this be done, where can I get the existing data? A lot of work went into this by the person on our forum who promoted it and losing it would be a shame.

BTW, I'm leading a 21 car caravan on an AACA tour of your area in September. I saw your town on the map when planning a trek to West Point. Small World

Send me contact information in a PM or some other non-public manner and I will try to make the connection (re: roster).

Things in this area (Dutchess County) that you may want to visit are FDR's home/library, Vanderbilt Mansion, CIA. There is an AACA Chapter here, but they are not very active. They didn't even have an annual meet last year (or this year, so far).

According to Post #469 and #478 in that Speedster thread, Ed is still maintaining the roster for them even though he no longer participates on the Forum.

Thanks Craig , I appreciate your attention to detail but a registry is simply a database and a database that cannot be viewed or used by interested parties might as well not exist. What we have is a database on a specific Studebaker model that owners of that model cannot see because the the Registry control is off the Forum and perhaps ill, we just do not know.

The owners of a model in a registry should be able to see and copy it; that is the only way it makes sense in my opinion.

I agree with you. I have sent a query to the keeper of the roster/registry. I am waiting to see what I hear back.

I wonder why SN60 left the forum? He sure seemed to enjoy discussing the original Avanti R3's.

I was wondering the same thing. Haven't seen him here for months.

I have exchanged a few e-mail with Ed, the keeper of the 1955 Speedster Roster, today. He is maintaining it and can be contacted as "MFG" on the AOAI Forum.
Murray can contact him if he is interested in keeping the SDC connection.
As of today (7/4/18), there are 334 1955 Speedsters accounted for (including 14 parted out).
