  • 1950 Studebaker Champion Sedan Trunk Lid

I have a lot to learn about Studebakers. I rescued one from the crusher a few weeks ago. Does anyone know where I can get a patch panel or a good truck Lid. For some reason mine has rusted completely through about 4 inches below the handle. I also need the left hinge. Thanks for your help.

That rust is pretty typical and a body shop can cut out that rust and weld in new metal. Finding a pristine trunk lid is tough and probably pretty pricey.
I have an extra deck lid, with some rust like yours, for a 4 dr sedan/convertible, which is shorter then the 2 dr sedan deck lids. 2 dr and 4 dr hinges are different too.

      That is not entirely accurate.

The difference in trunk lid lengths is between the coupes and the others:
-four door sedan, two door sedan, convertible take the short lid
-three passenger coupe and five passenger coupe take the long lid

The trunk lids interchange from 47-52 with the differences being in the holes for the trunk handle.

The hinges are different the same way the trunk lids are:
-four door sedan, two door sedan, convertible take one set of hinges
-three passenger coupe and five passenger coupe take the other set of hinges

I know French Lake in Minnesota has the parts, but shipping might be a killer. 320-286-2560

I have an extra short deck lid, but it also has a little rust on the bottom edge.

I'm really surprised French Lake doesn't have one.
I haven't been to Windy Hill Auto Parts near New London, MN in many years, but they also had some very nice 1950 Champions.
BTW Commanders should have the same lid.

Thanks for all your help. I believe I’ve located a good trunk lid. I now need to locate a good left trunk lid hinge and a glove box door.

You can still purchase NOS hinges from Studebaker Int.
