  • 2018 GSTA Rod and Custom Spectacular -- this year with two of our own

Saturday and Sunday (Sat 4/14/18 9:00 am - 8:00 pm Sun 4/15/18: 9:00 am – 6:00 pm) at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds!
    Sat: 9:00 am - 8

The Gopher State Timing Association's Rod and Custom Spectacular is generally considered to be the first event of the season for Minnesota. Sometimes it's warm, other times (like this time) it snows. This will be the 62nd year for the show. You read that right. The GSTA formed in 1954 and held their first car show in 1956. The car show is so popular that cars are displayed by invitation only. Often there are no Studebakers. This year we'll have two: Dave Chalberg's fantastic 1930 5-Window Erskine Coupe (many of you saw it at the International last year) and The Salt-2-Salt 1953 Starlight Coupe Bonneville racer. The Salt-2-Salt crew (Greg Meyers, Ed Bauer, and me) and some other volunteers will be doing a Tools4Teens giveaway and letting kids sit in the race car for pictures. Topols4Teens is Greg's charity that gives away toolkits to kids 9-19 to foster and interest in working with tools. And these aren't crappy toolkits -- they are fully stocked kits from Northern Tool with sockets, wrenches, allen keys, screw drivers, and all that stuff. You wish you had these tools when you got your first apartment.

Here's a link to the GSTA site with other details.

The car is in the outer ring of the arena, to the right of the main entrance. Come on down this morning before the heavy snow starts!

The Salt to Salt land speed car is one of my favorites. An indoor event like this seems like a great way to keep warm during a snow storm.
