  • automatic transmission with overdrive for teh Champion powered cars?

This is something that been on my mind for a while. For years we have had automatic transmissions with integral overdrives for our V-8 cars, with more than one vendor making adapters.

The cars powered by Champion sixes that were originally ordered with automatic transmissions don't get that much respect any more. Rightly so, because their acceleration is less than "casual" their top speed is less than required on the freeways and it's hard to drive them in today's traffic.

Several of the small pickup trucks from the 70's through the 90's came with four cylinder engines, rear wheel drive, and automatic transmissions with integral overdrives.

Could someone come up with a transmission adapter and put one of these little truck transmissions in a Champion powered car? Think of all the cars out there that could wake up and come back to life with a transmission having low first and second gears and overdrive top gear for the road.

Why hasn't it been done? Surely there are some folks who like six cylinder Studebakers. Is there no suitable modern truck transmissions out there? There has to be an engineering gear head among our lot who could figure this out.

    Opinions?

Sorry I screwed up and double posted. Please reply to the post with the correct spelling of "the" and not this one.
