Paul, I'm glad to read a recommendation from you on the sound. Do you have the model number or name of those Flowmasters on your Champion dual exhaust? When I put my dual Champion Six in my truck (I promise - this year!) I will want to know which mufflers to use.

I ran Smitty's on my '53 Commander back in the 50's. Sounded great when new, but a couple of highway trips later burning out the f'glas packing, they were LOUD. Wife complained, police complained, neighbors complained, got tired of hearing complaints and swapped them out for a pair of stockers. Current car runs flowmasters behind a small block Chev.

I've had several cars with Flowmaster 40. They all have a different rumble of loudness and sound depending on the engine size and the bending and winding tubing run from front to back. The loudness of the muffler system can vary. The Flowmaster is about 75 bucks per muffler but well worth the sound that stays consistent and doesn't seem to burn-out and get louder and then louder. Cabin noise is also controlled with a Flowmaster. We drive cross country so cabin noise has to be considered. ( We are heading to Bowling Green KY. for the NHRA Hot Rod Reunion in June. We and several other cars from Kansas are looking for a horse farm to visit between Evansville In and Bowling Green. We are also going to tour the 'Vette' plant in BG. ) We hope to see other Studes. at the show or drags.

I looked at the Summit website. They have "Flowmaster 40 Series" by Flowmaster, and "American Thunder 40 Series" by Flowmaster. What is the difference? Here is the link:

I need to buy mufflers for my Champ pickup with Simmons dual exhaust and want a nice sound but not super loud.

There are knock-off Flowmasters out there that look the same but do not have the embossed name on them nor are they numbered and they do not sound the same....BRAD

                      American Thunder 40 series...

One way to find out what one wants in sound is to go to cruise nights and shows and listen to exhaust as cars drive by and see-hear what you like. You will learn rapidly the sound of Flowmasters.
