  • Anyone going to Woodward?

I'm planning on making the Woodward Dream Cruise in Detroit this month. Driving out with some friends on Wednesday the 16th, coming home Sunday the 20th.
We plan on taking in the Henry Ford museum while we're out there. Anyone know of other places we should try to see?
    Thanks!

You might want to also go to the Village next to the museum, it's really cool, Windsor, across the Detroit River is fun, as is Greek Town in Detroit. Be prepared to stand in line the area will be packed, the cruise brings in about 1M plus people,

The Gilmore Museum near Kalamazoo (about 2 hours west of Detroit) is well worth the trip.

I'd Google car museums Detroit Michigan but the best by far if you don't mind an hour or so drive is the Gilmore Museum in Hickory Corners, Mi. Your choice of the Ford Museum (Include Greenfield Village also) is excellent. Ford's home Fairlane and the Dodge Brothers home Meadow Brook are around if you are into architecture. Bob

You could stop in Cleveland at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
JFYI, Last time I was at the Ford Museum ('09), they had a '51 Starlight on display parked next to an Edsel. See if it's still there.

Great suggestions, we'll try and work them in. I'd like to see the R&R hall of fame, but we won't be passing thru Cleveland. We're taking the straight path thru Canada between lakes Erie and Ontario.

Dwight....if you are coming through Canada stop at the RM Auctions restoration shop near Chatham....

They will allow you to tour the staging area where cars await their restorations...give them a call to set it up, and it's right on Hwy 401

Grab lunch at Vinsetta Garage at 11mile on Woodward. Great food in a vintage garage. Very cool. Check out Pasteiner's book store at 14 mile and Woodward. All automotive books, videos and die casts. Free hot dogs, pop and water the day of the cruise (8/19). I'll be working the cash register there early in the day (8/19) and will have either my '64 Daytona hardtop or convertible outside. Duggan's Irish Pub by 13 mile and Woodward is an icon. M1 race track and garage condos will have lots going on through the week. Al's Deli at 14 mile and Woodward has the best cornbeef sandwich in town (sorry for so many food references!).

If you haven't done the Woodward Dream Cruise it is a blast. Traffic on Woodward gets heavier every day as the big day approaches so plan ahead. I'll be out on Woodward every day the week before the big day so look for me in one of my '64 Daytonas!

t1oo3nl is right Vinsetta Garage is a fun place, but it likely will be booked for a private party, Pasteiner's shop is really more than a book store, more like a car guys "dream shop", Steve Pasteiner the "elder" should be there, great guy, fantastic designer, still very active, works with Corvettes, I'll be there at at the shop's lot (if I can get there on time to get in) in my 64 Black and White Marshall. The cruise is truly a blast, really the Super Bowl of cruses. Old Woodward in Birmingham will have a major car show on the 19th and there will be a bunch of SDCer's there.

Thanks all, we'll keep these in mind. We'll have a mixed group. A '70 Boss 302 Mustang, a '68 Vette, and my '54 Stude hardtop. Our friend Frank with the '41 Willys had to drop out due to health issues.

We made it out to Woodward and back. Had a great time. We ate supper at Vinsetta garage Thursday night. Stopped at Pasteiners Thursday, looked at all the cool stuff and bought some signs. I came back Saturday morning and introduced myself to Neil. He was busy minding the store, and I had to get back to my parking spot, so I didn't stay long.
We didn't get to any museums, a breakdown on the way out Wednesday put us behind schedule. Maybe next time.
