Sometimes the parts chassis books give info on changes by before and after serial # s

R3 cars had flanged axles way before the rest of the line. They were totally different than the 65-66 type however, and wont interchange.

I did check the '65-'66 Parts Catalog to be sure, but no luck there.

As the Service Letter explains, there are NO Serial Number breaks for the change to flanged axles, and they recommend the obvious; pull a Hub Cap or Wheel Cover and LOOK!

I always was told mid-year. But never heard a specific serial no.

We now know that any April 1965 and later Build dates are guaranteed to have Flanged Axles.

Sorry to hijack a thread but, I have a Model 44 3:31 Open (non TT) Flanged Axle Rear, no brakes, drums or backing plates. Excellent gears. $200.00 (deposit required) delivered to York Swap Meet.

Thanks all. I couldn't find a serial no. in the '65-66 Shop Supplement either. I didn't dig out the old TW about '65's though. But I do think they were very late production.
