  • Avanti & Hawk look alike 'Vette (really!)

Barrett-Jackson will be auctioning the sole 1963 Chevrolet "Rondine" Corvette. It was commissioned by Chevrolet as a styling exercise for the 1963 Paris Auto Show and designed and built by Pininfarina.

Doesn't this look a lot like an Avanti? Especially in its side view?
The aerial shot shows its greenhouse that (to me anyway) looks a lot like a Hawk.
    Check it out at:

Even the B-J car description sounds like Lowey's goals for the Avanti:
"The body style is based upon the idea of maximum simplicity and functionality...The limited use of chrome stresses sober elegance of design and harmony of the whole."

That oughta go for a few "bob". My opinion is usually in the minority around here and I should just learn to keep my mouth shut. But until that day, I'm just going to say that to me auction houses (especially, it seems, in the car hobby) are little better than pimps. I've often wondered what percentage of cars sold at auction sell for more than a "fair price". Course as long as one person wants to sell and two or more are crazy enough.....its fair game. I do, though, tend to watch as much of Barrett-Jackson as I can fit in. I've only been to a few auctions and the only car I was tempted to bid on was as Iso Grifo. And now they go for an easy $100,000.

Well it definitely bears no resemblance to a Corvette, that's for sure!
And that's a good thing, looks pretty good!

I'll say it before and please bear with me while I repeat myself, I think the Barrett-Jackson auction has ruined the collector car hobby.[V] If you don't have several million in the bank you will never have a chance at say an all original Hemi Cuda or Roadrunner.[B)] The prices those cars get is unreal and now everyone thinks his or her rusty ole mopar, ford, chevy is worthy of those lofty sums of money.[xx(] Ok I'm done now, I have to go set my DVR to record as much of it as possiable.[)]

Well, I'll admit 76K is a bit steep for a M series truck.

The aerial shot shows its greenhouse that (to me anyway) looks a lot like a Hawk.
Without the triangular rear post (or sail panel) it in no way resembles an Avanti. Looks like a 'vette from the side.
As for the greenhouse view - no way on the Hawk. It has straight glass, not a curved fastback.

You need new specs, Boyle? (lol)
