  • How rare is this?

    Hello,

    About a week ago I won an auction on ebay for SP-50079: Child safety locks for the rear doors. It is in complete NOS shape. I noticed im my accessories brochure for 1961 larks that these kits were an option.

    Was this also an option for other models? Are these rare or hard to find considering the lack of popularity for 4-dr models?

    These were almost NEVER sold, also never advertised, so much surplus still exists at the Studebaker vendors.

    You may be misunderstanding the lack of popularity of 4dr cars. They may be the last choice in some year models NOW, but remember when new, they were by far the biggest seller! [:0]

        I'd have to check my parts listings to be sure, but I think these were offered for any four-door. The SP number is a clue- were introduced sometime after the merger. I put a set on my Wagonaire many years ago. They would work on any two-door with pull-up screw-on buttons if you wanted to make it harder for someone to fish for the lock button.

            Plenty of them still remain. They go for about $10.00 per set on ebay.

                Safety locks for suicide rear doors are another rare one. AC-1822 is listed for 1949-'52 (why not '47 & '48 I don't know). It's basically a spring loaded dead-bolt that mounts in the center door post. It's pushed back into lock position by closing the front door.
