I have a 53 Commander coupe that had a 289 and flight o matic placed in it. I have a 4 barrel manifold I will be installing. What works best for this set up the original Carter Carb or an Edelbrock? The linkage is currently a WW 6-132 setup.

Someone modified that manifold. The new Edelbrock will drop right on, but you MAY have sealing problems. If I were going to use it I'd purchase a 1/16" aluminum carb mounting plate to restore the original Stude manifold base pattern, with a carb flange gasket below and (of course) above that aluminum plate.

There are no AFB sealing problems with a properly done conversion manifold (late 2bbl to AFB 4bbl).
1403 (500cfm electric choke) is the easiest, and probably the best choice for a stock/mild street engine.
Refrain from going too large a CFM on a small displacement engine.
No adapter plates or spacers needed.
You do neet to trim the GM kickdown linkage tab off the primary throttle linkage arm of the AFB. Takes about one minute.
Some minor OE choke stove tube mods are needed. Also very easy.
A minor adjustment of the OE 2bbl throttle arm is needed as the AFB primary throttle shaft position is slightly forward from the OE 2bbl throttle shaft position.

If that is one that I did... It was done a long, long time ago.
I don't sell intakes in primer.
My intakes have the choke tubes removed, and the transitions in the plenum are finished.
This one looks like the choke tube plug has been knocked loose.
But this one doesn't look bad at all. Just watch out that the carb secondary linkages don't interfere with the choke tube(s)

He does nice work. You'll have a good experience.
There are a few other things you can do to make this swap work real well.
If you are interested, give me a shout.

I use a 2 barrel manifold that a local machine shop modified. It looks like the picture above. I use a 1/2" sandwich of aluminum and composite spacers between it and my Edelbrock 500 cfm to prevent vapour lock and for the linkage to clear. Mine is a manual choke model which I prefer. My heat riser is removed and blocked off.
