  • Electrical: hawk radio

Is the dash opening on a 64 gt for the radio the same as a 58? Looking to upgrade my 64 hawk radio and I know a 79 chev pickup will fit the 58 hawk hole perfectly as I put one with a 8 track in a 58 sliver hawk many years ago until someone thought they needed it more than i did.

No, after 61, the radio opening was smaller. Then the bezel was the same size until the end in 66.

These folks are close to you http://www.turnswitch.com/index.htm

They can take a 64 Hawk radio and install a postage stamp sized circuit board with a FM tuner in it. It's called an FMC-1 and is made by these folks http://tech-retro.com/Aurora_Design/...tive_Home.html

This should be much less expensive than a full AM/FM high power conversion.

There is no need to hack up your dashboard just to install a cheap radio. See what these folks charge.

There also used to be a company that made custom tissue dispenser boxes that hung under the dash. They look like regular tissue dispensers, but the front is hinged on the bottom and opens down, revealing a place for a modern radio/CD player.
