  • 57 Commander interior

I have a 57W with a Custom front seat instead of Deluxe. It's getting new upholstery soon. I have a photo from a sales brochure showing the built in headrest on the front seat. Can anyone provide measurements as to how high on the seat back the curvature begins, the diameter, height and circumference so the installer can build the seat back correctly? Thanks.

    Built in head rest?

    In 1957.

    What?

The rounded roll at the top of the front seat back that runs the width of the seat, whatever it's called. After looking at the photo again, I need the distance from the top of the rear center ash tray to the start of the curve as well as size of the rounded area at the top of the seat back. That's the best way to describe what I'm asking for.

Previous post is a President, this one a Commander. Mine has the ash tray as in the 1st photo.

            Oh that.
I won't have access to my '57 Commander two door until tomorrow.
I can take a look at that time.
But I don't think it'll help much because...

The Commander two door you posted (2nd photo) likely also has an ash tray.
But it's not the same (style or location) as the four door due to the split seats two door cars had.
            Different seats- different stuff.

I'd look at my '57 Commander four door, but it's a Custom, not a DeLuxe.
So I'm not too sure it'll be at all like the higher trim level.

Mine is a 4 door with the center ash tray, sorry I didn't specify.

I believe upholsterers call that a 'bolster'.

A bolster is the extra padded area on the left or right edges of bucket seats.

Got the info I needed. Went to Robert Kapteyn's warehouse, photographed and measured a seat he had.

To clarify, I looked at sales brochures for 56 and 57 and only see the padded roll on top of the front seat in the President series, not the Commanders. I want to do it right, the car is in the trim shop now. I believe my interior is original and never altered, no rolled top in mine.

My dad bought a 1957 Champion it also had the rolled top on the seat. I am also rebuilding a 57 Commander with the rolled top.

Wow Tcab, the brochures only showed the rolled top on the President.
