Is there a way to find out by the serial number where your vehicle was assembled?

The shop manuals usually list that data, at least for the cars.

For Cars after 1956 a look at the Serial Number Plate should do it, it will be obvious that it was either South Bend, IN or Hamilton Ontario, Canada.

The starting Serial number groups for each Factory Vernon (Los Angeles) pre 1957, South Bend and any "C" Canada Serial Number codes are shown in the Body Parts Catalog and the Chassis Parts Catalog for each year range.

The Shop Manual information is very incomplete.

What year do you care about?

A '53 COULD have been assembled in Los Angeles, so if you post the Serial Number someone here can check a Parts Catalog for the answer as to which of the 3 plants it was.

It would be very rare that a '53 Canadian built Car got into the U.S. we have and had, enough of our own. But as I said in Post #3 you could read that on the Serial Number Plate if it were Canadian.

              Starting S/Ns -

              1953 Champion:
              SB G-1197501
              LA G-917701
              Ham. G-745101

              1953 Commander:
              SB 8290001
              LA 8826801
              Ham. 8955401

This makes it available to all without going to the references.

A guide through Studebaker's pre-1959 six digit serial numbers, X,XXX,XXX, the first digit was the series and the second for the assembly plant for all but Studebaker Champion. The letter "C" was not used to denote Canadian production prior to 1959.

                1 - 1920-1924 Light Six (EJ, EM) / 1925-1927 Standard Six (ER, EU) / 1927-1930 Dictator Six (EU, GE, GL) / 1932 Rockne (41)
                2 - 1922-1927 Big Six (EK, EP) / 1927 President Six (ES) / 1930 Dictator Six (FC)
                3 - 1922-1926 Special Six (EL, EQ)
                4 - 1927-1930 Commander Six (EW, GB, GH, GJ) / 1938-1950 Commander Six (8A to 17A)
                5 - 1927-1930 Erskine Six (50, 51, 52, 53) / 1930-1933 Six (53, 54, 55, 56) / 1934-1937 Dictator Six (A, 1A to 6A) series) / 1938 Studebaker Six (7A)
                6 - 1928-1933 President Eight (FA, FE, 90, 91, 92) / 1956-1958 Golden Hawk (56J, 57J, 58J)
