  • Oil Leaking From Upside Down Coils?

I was wondering if anyone has had trouble with oil leaking out of the upside down coils such as on the 40's and 50's six cylinder engines used?

Seems to be a problem with Model A's with upside down oil filled coils, so epoxy filled is required.

I've seen oil leaking out of several ignition coils. Many coils are filled with transformer oil and some are filled with something that resembles tar or asphalt. If the coil is sealed properly it shouldn't leak oil no matter how it is mounted. Bud

If the coils you're speaking of are from the 50-60 era, be aware that the oil used in the contains PCB's. I'm not certain when they banned the PCB's but it could be as late as the 80's and that is some NASTY stuff.. Keep away from it....

The older air-cooled VW's used to do that occasionly.
