  • Electrical: correct voltage regulator

I think that I am having voltage regulator issues on my '55 President coupe with a Delco generator. There are two different regulators on Ebay currently. The first is a Delco A-607M and the second is a Standard VR-8. Can you tell me which one is correct or are both correct. Thanx~!

Either should be correct. The D607 is the original Delco replacement number. The Vr-8 is a universal 6 volt 45 amp reg for Delco generators.
    American iron, real old school
With two tone paint, it sure is cool

Its got 8 cylinders and uses them all
With an overdrive that just won't stall

With a 4 barrel carb and dual exhausts
With 4.23 gears it can really get lost

Its got safety belts and I ain't scared
The brakes are good and the tires are fair.

Tried to sell her, but got no taker
I"ll just keep driving my Studebaker

Do you know what the 'A' prefix and the 'M' suffix mean in the A-607M designation??

Sorry my bifocals got in the way. The A prefix in the Delco number indicated an Autolite application. An F would indicate Ford applications. D is for Delco. D607 is the correct application for your '55. I have no listing application for the A607M. Don't know what the M stands for, but Delco added it to at least some Autolite applications.

I did a little more looking and it appears the A607M is for 6 volt Willys and Kaisers with negative ground.

My 1963 Motor's Flat Rate and Parts Manual list the 1955 Delco V8 Regulator as having the number 1118828 on the base.
