  • Title and vin tag

Looking for a good clear title and vin tag for a 1947 studebaker m5. Truck has been in family for 30+ years. no one knows where title went and vin tag is long gone. original motor is gone also so cant use engine #s. maybe someone has a rusty truck or a parts truck with good title and vin? Im in indiana. Thanks Jeremy

Did Studebaker stamp the serial number on a crossmember? Know they did on the passenger cars, don't know about the trucks.
If there is a number on a crossmember perhaps you could order a copy of the production order from the Studebaker museum. With that in hand maybe your DMV would issue you a replacement title?

There is NO secret, second Serial Number on 1949 and On Trucks, there may not be ANY on all Post-War Trucks, not sure about '46-'48.

Maybe we can find the orginal title or who in the family was the last to title it and go from there. If not my search will continue! Thanks guys if anyone runs across one let me kno. Im sure any year m5 title and tag would work.

Jeremy, since you are in Indiana and the truck was likely titled in Indiana (from what you said), proceed as follows:

See if you can scrounge up ANY paperwork from when the truck was last plated, such as a registration; preferably several of them from various years. If the family member on the registration(s) is able to go to the license branch, have them do so, presenting as many old registrations as you can find. They will be able to apply for a duplicate title and you won't have to worry about whether there are any numbers on the truck, because nobody will look at the truck itself under those conditions. BP
We've got to quit saying, "How stupid can you be?" Too many people are taking it as a challenge.
