And most here would prefer to forget the Road & Track quotes,

"A Lark in a gilded cage."

"The Avanti corners well, but not fast."

The cars weren't available when the demand for them was at its peak.

How about long time Studebaker employee Otto Klausmeyer's quote, "The wrong car, at the wrong time at the wrong price." Also added that it probably hastened Studebaker demise by a year or so.

As I recall, Otto had a personal dislike for the Avanti, and from even before the war, was always critical of Studebaker management steering the company in the wrong direction a lot of the time.

I think that Mechanix Illustrated's Tom McCahill said in his 1962 road test of the Avanti that it cornered "like a fly rimming a sugar bowl", or something to that effect. I'll have to dig out my old copy from the archive and see for sure.

How about a quote from a mechanic who worked at a Stude dealership said "anyone who likes Avantis never worked on one"! There is certainly some truth to that after working on several Studes and IIs.

"The Avanti is truly an International Car. It was designed by a Frenchman. It has a name and front seats that are Italian. And finally, it was built by Polacks in South Bend."
