wow, that is cool. love the color! BTW, by the look of it, I think it has one of those cool cast aluminum licence plates that NZ cars have. I had a 72 (IIRC) Toyota Corolla in NZ with one of those plates, but the co-worker I sold it to wouldn`t let me take the front one off and take it back home with me...he said he would never get it to pass the WOF (warrant of fitness) if the plate was missing off the front of the car. I wonder if those plates are still cast or if they are stamped in modern times. Cheers, Junior

The first owner was not a spend thrift as it looks to be lower priced model

That's why she left. She could see he was never going to buy her any of the better things in life. He should have went for a loaded Golden Hawk 400. She may have stuck around.

I'm surprised at how high that car went for ... It is cool and all but just think what kind of Studebakers you can get for that kind of money ..
Supercharged hawks , larks and Avantis ,, lol..

I am pretty sure that '58 Champion 4 Door is not going straight to a Barrett Jackson Auction to be sold in the U.S. for $150,000.00 as one poster on their site said. :woot:

Certainly NOT with that right hand drive, no one here would want.

Was it $56K Oz or $56K US?

That would be about $39,000. Still some cash!

What's the thing with the weird four headlight pods made weirder by incongruously going back to having two headlights in them?

Thank goodness us folks in the good ole US of A have StudeRich to tell all of us what we don't want!

What's the thing with the weird four headlight pods made weirder by incongruously going back to having two headlights in them? I believe that the '58 Champions had two headlights, in the pods, as standard equipment but the four headlight system was optional on them. The Scotsman, of course, didn't use the pods.

Many years ago, I think there was a write up in Turnings Wheels with a photograph of Carrol Studebaker pictured with the car when he was in New Zealand. Anyone remember what issue?
