Who's all going? It's one of the best annual meets put on in the South West. I will be swapping parts if any one needs somthing maybe I can bring it to the meet. Date is 5/29/2016. So if the Southwest zone meet up in Reno didn't fill your bucket. This will. Thanks John. See ya there

I believe my brother Dan will be there from Santa Maria. He is bringing Studebaker Hawk parts down for sale. He may be driving a '50s vintage Studebaker camper with a tan patina paint job.

La Palma has always been one of the Best All Studebaker Car Shows in the Country.
Do not be disappointed though, if you see more Modifieds than Original Cars this year though, because the many Local "Restoration Shops" and individuals just keep cranking them out more each year in So. Cal.

I guess it is a snapshot of the General Population of Studes. 20 Years from now, when most of those of us that care about Correct are gone. :(

I'll be there with my white `63 Avanti. I look forward to meeting you guys, finally getting to see the faces behind the typing so to speak. Be forewarned, I'll be picking your brains for advise right and left since I am still on the steep part of the learning curve. This is my first Studebaker and I have only had it since last June.

Also, I will be bringing an aluminum flywheel for a 289. As nice as it is, I really don't think I will want to be driving in traffic with it. If somebody has an iron one in equally good shape, some horse trading could be committed.

We will be there for the festivities, Stanley, our '57GH will make his debut.
...Hopefully someone will bring a starter motor for a Commander 226 ci. engine.
This will get me on the road to restoring a 1 1/2 ton '47........

I will be there!

As I have noted in other Posts, Non-Studebaker folks that showed up last year basically said the same thing.. "Its better than most Chevy rallies.."

I believe since the 20's people have been taking a stock car and customizing them. You can find instances of notorious gangsters swapping in a Ford V8 in their Dodge, because they would not be caught dead driving a Ford.. Many got their wish..

Here is the Link to Pictures of last years show..

http://s1286.photobucket.com/user/R2Whistler/library/Misc/La%20Palma?sort=9&page=1

I'd say there was 2/3 Stock and 1/3 modified, which is pretty a pretty good mix.

I am a firm believer that those who customize them, do a pretty fair job, and one thing is for sure.. It gets people tuning their head saying, "Cool! What was that?"

Yeah, well in most "modified" cases the answer would be, " well at least partly a Studebaker, Chevrolet, and maybe some Ford thrown in for good measure...https://s.yimg.com/ok/u/assets/img/emoticons/emo3.gifhttps://s.yimg.com/ok/u/assets/img/emoticons/emo10.gif

Doug's car is hard to miss! A 63 with a 66 front end. When your done looking at the car talk to it's owner & you'll find one of the nicest guys on this side of the planet then the other participants will be 99.9% as nice as Doug!

I'll be there with my 62 Cruiser. Anyone interested will be able to see for themselves a Studebaker production line mistake & what they did to fix it. If & when I ever get around to repainting it I wont fix what was done on the line.

So far, at least for me, the only event that surpasses :a Palma was the 96 International in Long Beach. Looking forward to seeing a lot of familiar faces & new ones!! I'll be wearing a Ed Roth (Rat Fink) "Studebakers Rule" t-shirt.

Maybe a donut eating contest. But it donut spinning contest we may have more Studebaker's on tow trucks from broken axles .. And that would probably never fly with any Studebaker drivers club sanctioned event.

Not to get off topic, but my buddy Rich is heading to the meet and has 2 rear fenders that I purchased about 2 years ago for my 51 commander project. If anyone is interested in them I will let them go very cheap to a good home. He can deliver them to The LaPalma meet.

Hi Roy, sorry to hear that you won't be at La Palma this year! Have some info for you. Went into my local TrueValue hardware store the other day looking for something and started going thru the small drawers with specialty items in them. Found some "shoulder bolts" that with a little modification will work perfectly as mounting bolts for the 50 to 52 Stude radios! you need 2 inch shoulder bolts and the last 1/2 inch is threaded 1/4-20. All that needs to be done is to grind the thickness of the head down about halfway, that is on the bottom of the head the side that is closer to the threads. They're about $2.80 per bolt with the tax but will sure save a lot of work! Steve

WOW! That took some talent. I saw your car there, if I'm not mistaken it was the only wagon.

I also saw the judges going around and at least some of them looked really young. I consider that a good thing so not critisizing at all but wonder how judges are chosen?

Dean,

I cannot speak to the details but one of our members is a local auto shop teacher. While endangered in the wild, we as a club seem to be able to give his type a protected status and are trying to nurture the results, i.e. the students. It would appear that our man was actively exposing the kids to what is a car show and how does it work. Sadly, I cannot remember the chap's name but I have met him before and was highly impressed by him.
