Check out the Studebaker powered Midget Race Car on eBay.

"The engine is a desirable Studebaker Champion flat head, 169 cubic inch 6 cylinder. Fuel injection was applied to few of these engines as it developed in the post war years. This unit was adapted from Tecalemit Jackson casting throttles and uses Kinsler nozzles, barrel valve and by passes."

Actually that car is fairly inexpensive and easy to fit in compared to today's beasties.

Nice little car. I notice that it does not have a water pump. Is this normal for that type of race car? It seems the engine would over heat in a race.

In the description: "High compression finned aluminum cylinder head, Iskenderian camshaft, and timing cover modified to mount the cam driven Waterman fuel pump and crank driven EVM water pump eliminating any drive belt. Ignition is a Scintella Vertex Magneto."

That said I have never heard of this type of water pump so other than being crank driven, can somebody explain how it works?

Small Block & Big Block Chevy Crankshaft Driven Water Pump "No brackets"
These crank driven water pumps bolt to the harmonic balancer of the engine. They then use a bracket to support the pump body. These pumps are used as primary supply pumps or even secondary pumps in closed cooling situations.

I can see why there would be an advantage not having a belt to get thrown during a race.
