  • R3 Air Box with second inlet added. A Granatelli and Paxton mod? R2 carb in added picture

I came across this picture of an R3 air box. It looks like somebody welded another tube in for a second supercharger possibly?

Could the Granatelli's have made this modification in the early 60's experimenting with a second blower? The added tube has a cap on it that says Paxton Products and a part number on it.

Any ideas if this was modified by Paxton way back when? Any information would be appreciated.

The DueCento R5 was Dual Supercharged, but with Fuel Injection it would not need an Airbox.

The welding looks kind of crude to be from Paxton.

I suspect its someone's homemade modification.

It's probably experimental for the Ford Mustang setup. They were trying to work out which side the blower would be mounted on . Early Mustang versions also used the R3 box

A picture of the base was added above. Looks like an R2 carb inside an R3 box. So, it could have been Stude related, maybe.

As I recall Karl Sparks has a dual supercharger set up on his, though I do not recall if it had a carb box. Perhaps Craig or someone else has some pictures.

Check Hot Rod magazine and you will see the R3 box used on very early prototypes.

Looks way better all polished up and setting on a polished intake....
(This one was made up years later, and is not the same as the one pictured in the op)

bezhawk, are you saying there is a box that looks like the one in the original post above (with two inlets) in the Hot Rod magazine?

The 1966 super tuning hand book had an article on very early Paxton Mustang setup development, and shows an R3 airbox. Later versions of the Mustang blower were on the opposite side, so, i'm surmising they MAY have had something like the pictured airbox to finalize things.
