  • Tom turns 10.98 @ 118mph at drags today!

I went with Tom Covington to the drags today. He turned 118 at 10.98 in his Studebaker powered Avanti. His engine is bored 60 over to make it 298 cubes. It is turbocharged.

I put the photos on webshots.

Also on with Tom's photos is a lady friend from Germany, Doris, who races a 69 Camaro with a 400 cube small block Chevy.

For sure Tom has done good tuning and setup, its great that he is in the 10's already

A 1.5x 60' time would go with a foot braked car at that e.t. - but a trans brake launched car like his should pop another tenth off that and bring ~ 10.70 e.t.

At his rate of progress he'll be running mid 10's soon enough. I expect the speed will increase to the mid 120's as well.

Way to go Tom. Nothing like a Stude at the drag strip. And a fast one at that. Looks like it was a nice day there today. Weather conditions must have been great. Thank for keeping us posted.

That is impressive! Especially for using a domestic engine design that has been out of production for 44 years, for which there are few aftermarket parts available.
