  • Waiting for the Wagon - Studebaker Christmas promotion

The origins of the song "Wait for the Wagon" predate 1850 and many versions (lyrics) exist. In 1884 Studebaker issued its own version and inserted the name Studebaker to the words. They had an artist design a special cover and had over 200,000 lithographs of the sheet music sent to "all parts of the globe." It was called "one of the most successful advertising schemes in the history of modern lithographic advertising." Front cover shown here.

Too bad someone at Studebaker in 1963 did not have the creativity to reintroduce the theme and make it "Waiting for the Wagonaire."

Thanks very much Richard for Posting that neat bit of History!

You gotta admit those Studebaker Bros were very creative people, also the many dedicated employees and employee Families.

Advertising Agencies today, would be hard pressed to Top that if they did not have the Internet, TV etc.
