    Can a carter AVS 4 brl be made to work like an AFB on stude V8 ? Thanks

    Sure, basically the same carburetor as the AFB..!
    Just has the adjustable secondary upper butterfly (air valve)...which is a good thing..!
    Depending on a few things, you may need an adapter plate to gain a little height for throttle clearance and possibly the correct stud spacing depending on your manifold.
    The spacer/adapters are easy and not too expensive.

      Newer Edelbrock thunder series AVSs are better than the 60s Carter versions. The new ones have secondary booster venturies like AFBs do. Early Carter versions just had a brass dump tube sticking out in the air stream with no atomization.

          High gear ratios and automatic trans don't work as well with this carb as do std trans and a little taller gear.
