Positive to positive, negative to negative, but only while a partner starts the car, then unhook fast. (If the six volt battery explodes, you waited too long):)

JDP/Maryland
63 R2 SuperHawk (Caesar)
spent to date $54664,75
64 R2 GT (Sid)
spent to date $62,439.30
63 Lark 2 door
52 Starliner
51 Commander
39 Coupe express
39 Coupe express (rod)

JP is right. Best thing is make sure there is an ON/OFF switch on the battery pack. Once the 6V engine begins to crank have someone turn the switch to off, then pull the jumper cables.

Be prepared to see that engine really turnover.

Best method I've found: connect the negative to negative, have driver turn on the key to run starter, have assistant just touch the positive terminals. It will spark and start. The sparks will cause the assistant to disengage the positive terminals. I've started many 6-volt vehicles by jumping from another 12-volt vehicle, and have had experienced road service providers do the same.

One nice thing about a generator syatem, once you generator is running, you don't really need the battery. An alternator won't work without it.

Thanks for the info guys.
I'd heard you had to connect the neg. cable to the starter side of the sol. switch to bypass the battery and was looking for verification.
